STYGIAN PROMPT THREAD: 002 (Chaos)

Postby Toshi Sun Apr 29, 2018 7:29 pm

CHAOS 002: Daily tasks:

There is always work to be done, and with that, daily tasks. Pick one of the daily tasks below, and complete it however you wish.

SWEEPING (human form only): "You need hands," remarks a voice, two eyes from the shadows, and your Stygian is immediately in a human-like form. They are given a broom and asked to sweep up all debris on the forest floor, anything from leaves to branches to well, just about anything really. ((Feel free to get creative with things your Stygian may find on the forest floor))

OFFERING (all forms okay): In the middle of the forest clearing is buried what looks like a solid wooden staff, with a black gemstone in the center of it. It looks a little different to each Stygian who perceive it, as if it calls to them differently. Your Stygian is asked to give it an "offering", anything your Stygian owns, perhaps a trinket from their own kingdom. What will they give it this time?

DAYDREAMS (all forms okay):: Daydreams of all shapes and sizes swarm the forest floor. Your Stygian is tasked in gathering them and clearing them out of the busier forest floor. Don't want anyone tripping over them! You may use any Daydream that exists as your art subject (though it is encouraged to draw ones your Stygian owns!)

PATROL (all forms okay): Unusual shapes surround the border of the forest. They call them "lost souls", and they float as glowing, yellow orbs. They aggressively swarm and attack any Stygian that nears it, so it is up to your Stygian and perhaps some use of shadow-weaving to keep the lost souls at bay.

RENOVATION: Your Stygian is asked to help build rooms inside the trees for others visitors, like small treehouses. What will the decorate the room with?

[ Chaos - 002 - Solo - Titus (S052) - 4/29/18 - Prompt 1]

Titus wasn't having a very good night, all told. And when something insinuated that how he needed to spend the rest of his night was tidying a forest floor, the level of resentment he had was very high. In human form, he held the broom as if it was a criminal who had committed a grave offense.

"The forest floor," he said snippily to the long-disappeared voice, "is fine as it is." And it was. Did it want, what, the path cleared? The forest path? Passage would do that, not a broom. Leaves belonged scattered everywhere. They were eaten, they decayed, and their deaths gave the soil a rich and fertile nightmare fuel that allowed the forest to grow exactly as old and big as it was.

He adjusted his bag a bit closer to him. As a human, Titus had strawberry blonde hair that didn't quite reach his shoulders, a generous helping of freckles, and slightly pointed ears. He looked plain. His clothing also looked plain, worn from use. His shoes had once belonged in an office, but they were so dusty it was clear they no longer served that particular purpose. His bag was filled with glass potions, the peculiars and value of them apparent to only him.

Still, he cleared the path a very little, and then spent the rest of his time crouched and making brief connections with anything that stirred in the leaves. Maybe if he arranged this pile over this way, it'd make a nice, cozy place for a nice mouse couple to...he felt himself blushing and furiously stamped down on the feeling.

[ Chaos - 002 - Solo - Lawr (S-049) - 4/29/18 - Prompt 1]

Patrol

If Lawr had a list of things he really hated, physical labour would be at the very top of that list. Even in the dreamworlds it was difficult to get him to do anything overly physical that wasn’t directly related to violence. It had taken a lot of persuading to get him out on patrol at all and in the end he’d only deigned to leave because he got bored of where he was sitting.

He wasn’t very fond of the forest any longer, finding it uncanny and distasteful, the knowledge contained within nothing more than a poison. He had no doubt at all that if he ate any more of the fruit or bark that he would damage himself and that if he kept at it, he would surely die. It wasn’t at all worth it. He’d live with his oddly specific knowledge and ask for nothing further, there’d be some other way of utilising this place further down the line and he was nothing if not patient.

Striking out, he headed to the edge of the forest, shifting as he went to his bird shape, a small nimble barn owl making his way through the trees before climbing up above the reaching branches. He glided low over the treetops, the sky above him brilliant with swirling stars. He alighted only when he saw the flitting orbs, having been forewarned about the danger.

He bared his fangs as he coalesced into his normal form and leapt forward to strike out viciously with his hooves. Altruism was painful at best.

[ Chaos - 002 - Solo - Lawr (S-049) - 13/05/18 - Prompt 2]

The idea of giving an offering was stupid in the first place. Lawrence didn't submit to anyone and he didn't worship anyone or anything except himself. Still, work was work here and there was always some small degree of reward to be obtained if you played their game and paid lip service to what they asked for. So he went out into the forest, walking for what felt like hours looking for the clearing they'd told him would be out here. He carried a small bag across his back and generally took his time. He had no need to hurry, it wasn't like it was going to go anywhere without him.

Why he'd ever need to pay tribute to a stick was beyond him and said more generally about the creatures who lived here than it did about any potential deity.

Finally, as the day drew into evening he found it, jutting from the ground in a way that was somehow utterly unlike any tree. Its wood curled around a large black gemstone like a clasping victorious claw and it glittered in the most ominous way, casting several shadows in spite of the light being too low for that to happen at all. His criticism and scoffing attitude died on his lips as he was gripped by a very strong sense of tension and fear on the air itself. The staff felt off somehow, sinister and foreboding. It was not the sort of thing to be appeased like religion but feared like a tyrant instead.

He'd brought a trivial offering, something mocking and belittling, but a little concerned that this might offend whatever controlled the strange object he settled for leaving a mirror shard from his own mirror instead.

Just in case, it always helped to be on the safe side.
